Edge of the World
I woke up one autumn morning to find the house wrapped in thick fog. It never lingers for long, so I knew I didn’t have much time to reach somewhere picturesque. Fog and water are a perfect pairing for photography—the water creates a sense of vastness, while the fog softens the world and erases all the usual background clutter.
I grabbed my always‑packed camera bag and drove less than ten minutes to the nearest stretch of water.
Brisbane Water is sheltered from the ocean, which often leaves the surface glassy and the fog untouched by any sea breeze.
I walked out onto the wharf. I’d barely lifted my camera when a lone kayak drifted into view, gliding across the still water. The fog became the ideal backdrop, and for a moment it looked as though he was paddling along the edge of the world.
