Description
It’s an unusual sight, no doubt about it—a row of seemingly abandoned tractors lined up along the water’s edge. They haven’t been forgotten, though. Moments earlier, each one was used to tow taxi boats from the nearby village—boats packed with tourists heading out for a day of adventure on the waters skirting Abel Tasman National Park.
Because the boat skipper is also the tractor driver, the tractors are simply left at the shoreline once the boats launch. Someone else will come along to drive them back to the office before the tide rolls in. It’s a quirky, practical rhythm unique to this place, and it makes for a wonderfully unexpected scene.
