Outback Gallery

Outback Gallery

Capturing the Australian Outback in a single photograph is almost impossible. While many picture an endless arid landscape of red sand and sparse scrub, that is only one of its many faces. After a good wet season, the same country transforms into sweeping stretches of vibrant green — alive with texture and colour. This Australian Outback photography gallery moves through those contrasts: desert roads, Channel Country floodplains, ancient waterholes, and the quiet drama of a Broken Hill sunset.

When night falls, few places on Earth rival the Outback sky. Vast open horizons and minimal light pollution create conditions that are exceptional for astro photography. The Milky Way images here — photographed across stations in western NSW, the Warrumbungles, and beyond — reflect just how extraordinary that darkness can be.
