Evening Glow

Late spring, and the light is doing something that won’t last. Evening Glow was made at sunset over Lake Keepit in northwest NSW, during the brief, delicate window when the sky compresses its final colour into a single band of gold above the treeline. For a few minutes, the entire landscape seems to pause. The dam holds the colour perfectly in reflection, doubling the glow as if reluctant to let the day slip away. The water is almost without movement, its surface smoothing into a quiet mirror. The trees on either bank have already fallen into darkness, reduced to gentle outlines that frame the luminous strip of yellow.

As the sun sinks lower, the glow intensifies before fading, creating a moment that feels both fleeting and deeply grounded. The simplicity of the scene—dark land, still water, a single radiant band—reveals how powerful minimalism can be in nature. The colours shift subtly, the gold softening into amber, then into the first hints of dusk. Everything reduces itself to essentials: light, shadow, reflection. Some evenings earn their photographs. This was one of them.
