Description
Fiery Sky
Photographed in April at Lake Keepit in northwest NSW, Fiery Sky captures the moments after sunset when the sky above the lake’s western hills erupted in deep red and crimson — a post-sunset afterglow that saturated the cloud layer from the horizon upward and reflected in broken bands of colour across the still surface of the water below. The hills along the far shore are rendered in complete silhouette against the blaze, their gentle, rounded profiles forming a strong horizontal line that anchors the panoramic composition and separates the dark water from the luminous sky above.
The image’s palette is deliberately reduced — near-black in the foreground and along the ridgeline, deep red and rose through the centre, softening to grey and purple at the upper edges of the frame. That tonal range, and the strong horizontal layering of the composition, make this a particularly powerful large-format print. It holds a wall with the kind of quiet authority that only comes from a sky that was genuinely doing something extraordinary — and a photographer who was already there with a camera when it happened.
As a fine art print, Fiery Sky celebrates one of those rare moments when light transforms a familiar landscape into something extraordinary. The panoramic composition enhances the layered bands of water, silhouetted hills, and glowing sky, allowing the eye to travel across the scene and absorb its remarkable colour. This format is particularly effective above a sofa, dining setting, bedhead, hallway console, or office workspace where its horizontal presence can be fully appreciated. The dramatic reds, crimsons, purples, and near-black silhouettes complement contemporary, minimalist, modern, and nature-inspired interiors. Whether admired for its vivid colour, tranquil atmosphere, or connection to Lake Keepit, the print provides a striking focal point and a lasting sense of wonder.
