Description
Norah Head Lighthouse and the Moon
Photographed in March at Norah Head on the NSW Central Coast, capturing a brief and beautifully balanced celestial moment. In the minutes before sunrise, the full moon descends toward the horizon and aligns almost perfectly with the lighthouse tower, creating a natural pairing that feels both deliberate and impossibly fleeting. Above, the sky holds the last of the deep pre-dawn blue, gradually softening into pastel tones as the first light approaches. This transition of colour and light sets the stage for a scene that is calm, precise and quietly dramatic.
In the foreground, the sandstone headland, weather-shaped rock platform and small stretch of beach add texture and grounding to the wide panoramic frame. Their warm, earthy tones contrast with the cool sky, giving the composition depth and a strong sense of place. What makes the photograph especially compelling is its timing: the sun rising behind the photographer while the moon sets ahead, two opposing movements captured in a single moment. It’s a visual meeting point between night and day, offering both a beginning and an end within the same frame—an interplay of light, landscape and timing that can only be witnessed for a few minutes each year.
What makes Norah Head Lighthouse and the Moon particularly compelling is the rarity of the moment it records. The panoramic composition enhances the sweep of the headland and allows the lighthouse, setting moon, and pre-dawn sky to exist in perfect balance within the frame. Soft blues, pastel peach tones, warm sandstone colours, and deep coastal greens create a refined palette that complements coastal, contemporary, Scandinavian, and nature-inspired interiors. Particularly effective above a sofa, bedhead, dining setting, hallway console, or office workspace, the artwork introduces a sense of calm and quiet anticipation. Whether appreciated for its timing, its coastal setting, or its celestial alignment, the print offers a distinctive and memorable focal point.

Ola delivered a stunning photograph, beautifully presented in an acrylic float frame. I bought this photograph for a gift to the Palliative Care Unit at Gosford Hospital where it hangs in memory of my sister. Hospital staff were delighted with the photograph. At a difficult time Ola provided caring service and a beautiful product in a timely manner.
